Two REALLY different experiences

I just got back from a two-day trip to see Shinedown twice...in Bethlehem, PA and then in Atlantic City.

So, did anyone go to Bethlehem? Well, I've been out of college for a while, but I still expected that college kids would be, well, college kids! The Bethlehem show was at the college basketball arena. Originally I bought floor tix and then actually spent the money again to buy tix in an assigned seat because I thought it would be "too wild" on the floor. I couldn't have been more wrong on that front. The floor crowd was incredibly subdued. At one point Brent even took a trip around the floor to try to work the crowd. It didn't even work a little. Now I don't want to say everyone was lame because there were a few actual fans there. (any actual fan who was there would surely say the same thing). I was just amazed.

Besides the crowd, the show was absolutely fantastic. They were so tight and so entertaining. Wow...Shinedown never fails to please.

From there, my boyfriend and I went to AC to see them in the House of Blues. The were so hot...so good. The HOB sound system and acoustics are excellent. The show has been sold out for several weeks. And the crowd was INSANE! People lined up from 1PM, just to be in the front row for Shinedown to start at 9:40. Now THATs a fan base! The show kicked ass too. I have sensory overload, not to mention the fact that my ears are still ringing.

Put your fist in the AIR!!!!

I was at the AC show, I loved SD's set. I went to the NYC show last week and it was great and the AC show was better. I definitely was not in front, thanks to work I got there midway through Puddle of Shit, err..Mudd and it was already packed by that time. But I found an opening and luckily two short(er) girls were in front of me, so for being so far back I was still able to see what was going on.

Now that they are selling these smaller places out, I would like it if they moved to some bigger venues. That way the odds are a little fairer. I don't have the time or the patience to stand in a 5 and half hour line (if there's a line for a SD show I go straight to the nearest bar and pregame). But I would be willing to pay more cash to get front row seats or what have you.

Or just to have a seat, I'm a short dude, and I hate having some 6'4 guy right in front of me and suddenly I can't see shit. I want a good vantage point. I don't really care if I am near the band. I just want to be able to see what's going on. That's why I loved the NYC show, I found a seat right in the middle and I could see everyone!

I admit, being front row is the best. But I go to as many SD shows as I can (14 since 2004) and I can't battle every single show for a decent standing spot. And being front row is a special thing, and when something is special it should only be a seldom occurrence.

Many will disagree with this, but that's why it's my opinion.
Speaking of the crowds that are coming to shows these days, I have to say alot of the people i was around at the Bethlehem show knew Second Chance and If you Only Knew and that was about it. Needless to say them opening with Sound of Madness then Devour wasnt quite what they expected to hear i dont think. :P
Thank you! I thought I was just crazy. Did you notice how everyone just stood there in straight rows looking politely at the stage? I actually tried to take a short video clip of it because I didn't think anyone would believe me!

Oh, well, I didn't stand in line from 1PM. Really it was so easy. I got there with 1 1/2 songs to go on Puddle of Mudd. When they went off, a lot of people cleared out to get drinks or use the bathroom or something. We made a beeline for the front right then and wound up about the equivalent of 5 rows from the stage without being aggressive jerks. Basically we just walked right up there.

I was actually in about the 2nd or 3rd row on the floor as i did the meet and greet but i looked at some vids on youtube someone has one up where he pans over the floor a few times and it looked so dull. Like i said most people seemed to know the pop friendly ballads, and thats about what they expected to hear, not songs like SoM, or Cyanide. did you notice the one time they cut out singing during heroes for the crowd to sing and it sounded like no-one knew the words? Almost total silence. the look on Brents face then was priceless. Oh well the performance was good at least.

Yes! I did see that. I thought it was the most bizarre thing I ever saw. Just a lot of seriously confused faces. They must've asked to see their agent after that show. lol. The performance was great! Cyanide was the tightest I've ever seen.

I didn't make it out to the Bethlehem show, but that was exactly the same experience in NYC Nokia. I was belting out the song lyrics, Brent cut out and all I heard was me and some guy behind me finish the line. And it was even funnier, as I really can't sing and I had a cold that night.

Another thing that surprised me was when Brent asked if this was your first Shinedown concert, more than half the audience raised their hands.

PS I do agree that it'd be nice to have seats and be able to see over the 6'4" guys, but at the same time, I like how personal the smaller venues are, so it's a toss up for me.

We love Shinedown. Saw them for third time...my son's first concert EVER. Amazing show at Youngstown, OHIO. The tix for seats were very reasonable and worth the view, the safety from the mosh-pit, and the delight of having the ability to see and sing and jump with my son the entire set.

Nod there was alot of people who said it was their first show at the bethlehem show as well. that is most likely a big part of why they were so dead \ confused. Oh well.
