Part 1: NEW YORK BLITZ FOR AMARYLLIS

My family and I are enamored with the new Shinedown album, Amaryllis and, as demonstrated in my previous posts, are TOTALLY dedicated to spreading the word; our efforts are not singular!!! Rather, we take EVERY opportunity to increase awareness and exposure and promote the album’s success!!!
But to win the iPad, I tried to be “vast and brilliant” and think big (although I am a simple man), coming up with a plan (making sure as we executed, I had permissions and there was no law breaking)!

First, we made flyers (pictured), lots and lots of them. We formatted to get 3 from a sheet and went through nearly a ream of paper and 4 sets of printer cartridges, making over a thousand total!!!!

I next bought some posterboard and hand-made a sign promoting the new album, fashioning a rope at the top to wear around my neck (most of the time on my back as I had my Shinedown T-shirt with logo on the front).

We live just outside Harrisburg, PA so when I tried to think vast (and most populated), New York City seemed the obvious choice but easier said. As I needed help to carry out the plan, I took advantage of the kids having off school Friday. But, as my employer doesn’t recognize Friday as a holiday , I had to take the day off (Friday just happened to be my Birthday as well so my boss OKed it), spent $152 and bought two round-trip Amtrak tickets (one for my 11 y/o son), got up real early and made the 3+ hour train trip to the Big Apple.

On the train, I wore the sign and handed out some of the flyers, but the best was yet to come. We got off the train at Penn Station and set up: I took my Ministar travel guitar, a portable, battery powered amp, my cell phone (with Amaryllis loaded in MP3) and cables (see PART 2 for a close-up picture of the set-up). This is a sweet little amp that allows both the phone/ MP3 output and the guitar to play through, even simultaneously (pictured). So, I played the album through the amp, wore the poster around my neck (mostly on my back as not to obscure the message with the guitar), “played” the guitar, and my son handed out flyers (my thanks to the kind strangers along the way who acted as impromptu photographers!).

Now, I would NEVER risk ruining this awesome music with MY guitar playing. Plus, I would not pretend to know the notes/chords. Rather, this was a gimmick to get more attention. The guitar input was turned down and I just strummed some basic chord progressions. The Ministar is an unusual electric guitar itself (and thankfully VERY portable) and with the album playing, people were intrigued with the whole “show”, it drew them in!!!

PLEASE SEE PART 2 FOR THE REST OF OUR EXTREME NEW YORK CITY PROMOTIONAL DAY!!! THANKS!

Man, us PA people rock! Nice promoting! I hope that we are judged in different weeks so that I have (what I think is) a chance! We were actually out near Penn's Cave the day before the contect was announced and I said tomy husband 'darn, that would have been a good photo op for this!' Nice job!

OMG, thank you so much for your comments. If not for the fact that our WHOLE family loves the band, I might be divorced by now...I have devoted the whole weekend to this project (the photo thing probably would have been a no brainer for someone else but neither of my kids knew how to do it :(

Thank you all for your comments!!!!!
We are so very proud to be part of this community. Great Band, awesome album, fantastic fans. It was a privilege to promote this most recent project!
