It was just mentioned on musikuniverse.net (In French, last paragraph here: http://musikuniverse.net/nouvelles.php?id_nouvelle=9224)

Apocalyptica didn't get the rights to "use" Brent so they can't release the song with Brent. The news said that the singer from Hoobastank is going to sing instead. I wonder if the video is going to be re-done, I don't think so though, it was part of the a trilogy and was filmed at the same time as the two other songs. Personally, I think Brent was never in the same room as Apocalyptica since they never interact with each other in the video, but I don't have any proof.

I like the video, not the best one from Apo, but Brent is cute and intense so it's all good. :D

no i agree.i don't think they were in the same room.but it the way they put it together sort of worked even though some interaction probably would have helped.but he did do good in that song.wish it would have worked out.

It's a good video, but I think I got my hopes up a little too high for it since it's one of my favorite songs....

It doesn't have to be someone who sings like Brent. Just someone who doesn't sound awful. Hoobastank reminds me of Bon Jovi...now! Not 80's or 90's Bon Jovi but the god awful "Have a Nice Day" crap Bon Jovi has become.

Having Brent Smith sing a song with you and then replacing him with dude from Hoobastank is like ordering a Blue Moon or Newcastle at the bar and the bartender comes back with Steel Reserve...awful, truly awful.

wow this is certainly news to me and might i add very dissapoint news as well. I thought brent nailed the song down on not strong enough. Now to go and replace him with the singer for hoobastank that just doesn't quite sit very well. I understand they never actually got the rights to use Brent but they should have looked into that before. oh well fact is brent did a great job and I have the song in my ipod already. It's a great song. too bad we won't be hearing it on the radio.

Is the switch definite? cuz this is one of my favorite song and will be depressed if it is....Even if they never got rights to him, he still did it so he obviously agrees right? not understanding.....

Yeah I'm confused too. If they did the original with him, how would they not have the rights to use him later? It's on the CD already? And I do think that almost any substitution would probably be bad, but that really doesn't seem to be a good one. Like others have said, I already have the CD version on my phone, so I'll just listen to that one.

my guess would be that maybe brent liked the song and did it on his own.but i'm not positive.i don't know how everything in that business works.but doing it can only help them, shinedown and apocalytica.but it could have come down to something simple that just wasn't done.like signing something or could be contract related.i don't know.but brent is his own person.i would think he would be capable of making his own decisions.the way it was said it was like he was a piece of property, which the way some of it works, could be true,it's wrong, but could be true.

If you performed a song and it was released on the cd...and then appeared in a music video singing that same song...I don't know where the confusion could be haha. I love the song and now I'm kinda pissed.

I'm not a hoobastank fan and no disrespect, but Brent's voice on this song is so powerful that it's going to be tough to fill those shoes...Everyone that is a fan has most likely already heard the Brent version and I just don't think it's going to be as powerful a song with ANYBODY else. Was Chris Cornell busy???? I'm just sayin....

Ok, might be stupid and probably won't get a response, but I e-mailed Atlantic to see what the deal was with the whole situation. I even went to Apocalyptica's website and their forums have fans complaining like we are. Perhaps if we send enough e-mails a statement will be made or something, I don't know...just pissed about it.

Besides, this would help keep Shinedown and Brent in the light while they are not touring and show dynamic for his voice...but then again I guess that would be the smart thing to do, and lately people don't want to do the smart thing.

Ryno, I totally agree with you...this is ridiculous...the song is on the CD already, the Video has already been released....having to have someone else come in and re-do this awesome song is just pathetic....and like I said there isn't going to be anyone that has as powerful a voice as Brent. I think it's in Atlantic's best interest to let sleeping dogs lie....

This is absurd. Probably more boardroom big wig political BS.
Somebody didn't like the way an 'i' was dotted on a contract and pulled the plug or some nonsense.

People guest on other peoples music ALL THE TIME and I've never seen this.
Hell...no modern day pop star can make a single w/o having some rapper 'sing' on it.

This song would have dominated radio for weeks w/ Brent.....

I won't comment further because I do not know the why's or how's but this does stink.

Ok, I heard the modified version today on Sirius Octane. It SUCKED!!! I mean, it was painful to listen to. True, any singer would be going against a biased listener, but there are people who could at least do it justice, and Doug Robb didn't. It sounded watered down, like the "light" version of it. As soon as it was over, I went straight to my cds and listened to Brent's version and was thoroughly amazed at how good he makes that song. And it made me angry to know that everyone who's not a big fan of either SD or Apocalyptica is going to think that the other song is the "real" one because that's what got air time.

I knew this was going to suck, without a great singer to deliver this song with passion the lyrics fall flat on its face. Brent's delivery in the original more than makes up for the weak lyrics.

Now you bring in a weak singer, who sounds exactly like the singer from Lifehouse or Switchfoot, or any other bland Bon Jovi-esque pop rock band that sucks canal water. It turns "Not Strong Enough" from a powerful dreary ballad to a three minute piece of shit.

Replacing Brent Smith for Doug Robb is like replacing Freddie Mercury for whoever the singer for Ratt was. Here you have this great singer who has this powerful and unique voice and replace him with someone who sounds like everybody else.

Interesting thing is, Brent's version is okay for radio internationally, just not in the US. You think Atlantic didn't want Not Strong Enough to compete with Diamond Eyes? Atlantic probably didn't want their singer to compete with their song.

i wonder if doug knows that he can't fill brent's shoes.i mean i like some of hoobastanks older stuff but i haven't kept up with them and i understand that they couldn't use brent and had to find someone else.but there was others they could have used.

but i give him kudos for stepping up to take that spot, even if brent's is still way better

The version of the video is out with Doug Robb from Hoobastank...sorry to say it HoobaSTINKS! I know that Brent's shoes are tough to fill but as someone already said...it was painful to listen to...not that anybody could have sang it as powerfully as Brent, but really...it's terrible...I'm thinking Chris Cornell was busy! This would have been one of the only 'possible' better replacements.....I wanted to cry when I heard it...
Here's the link, however, if you're time is valuable...don't even waste it..
