Dear Missouri area fans -

We wanted to apologize to everyone who came out last night to our gig at the State Fair - as you probably know we were unable to play due to the crazy weather! We all hoped that the winds and rain would pass - we kept waiting and waiting and waiting (sorry to keep you all waiting so long), but it just never cleared up! We are extremely upset that we could not put on our show for all you lovely people - you all are the best fans we could hope for!

We really appreciate you all coming out and continuing to support us and sorry we didn't have a nicer evening!

HARV573 If you have something to say to me then click on my name and leave it on my profile. How DARE you call me disturbed! I am not disturbed and I suggest you take that comment down before I flag your entire profile for 'hate comments'. What I said was the truth and you damn well know it. Now you felt bad because you know it was the truth and decided to make a piss poor apology? How pathetic are you? So again TAKE DOWN THE COMMENT or I flag your profile. I do not take someone calling me names lightly. I can be an adult and I HIGHLY suggest you do the same thing.

plz reschedule another date for kc and make it twisted christmas plz!!!!!

Hope you guys reschedule for another KC Metro show.. I am thinking Twisted Xmas... Understand why the show was cancelled, and hate that it was for the fans, but thats the chance you take for an outdoor concert. Remember guys MUDFEST, don't understand how they were still able to plan, but yet there was no lighting, but we will cross our fingers that you guys will be back this year.

tech in my anger i was a little to hard on u as well! what u said was true i was on the the 11th row and seen the fire marshalls take over that show. one more time I DO NOT FAULT THE BAND FOR NOT PLAYING THE SHOW!! for gosh sakes this poor disturbed women named valerie thinks i wanted the band to get hurt or the crowd thats just stupid!(read caps) i grew up in a family where respect was very important and hard earned and disrecpect was not tolerated! tech i'm sorry i don't agree that the band couldn't have the meet and greet if it would have been for everybody at the show i could have seen that being true but since it was only for 75 or 100 people i don't buy that! i felt very angry cause i feel i was disrecpected and for me that will be very hard for them to earn back they could always come back and honar that meet and greet to the fans that should have had one and earn the respect back they lost that night! the band will prove my point cause they won't take a little time out andrepair the damage which proves they only care when they have something to gain! i do need to app to u tech in my anger i said some things that wasn't right and for that i am sorry! i still luv their music

I wasn't at this concert but I know how much you guys hate cancelling shows. I saw you guys in Cleveland on August 9th, and I know how much the fans mean to you guys. You guys are amazing.

HARV573 if them not playing at the fair is what turned you off then you were never a true fan. It was the COMMITTEE that told them they couldn't play. So before you go laying blame on Shinedown find out the facts first. And second if you think for one second that a TRUE Shinedown fan is going to let you talk about our guys like that then you are out of your mind. How dare you come on their website and bash them for something that they had no control over. If you want to get a microphone and stand in water and make a speech then go right ahead. I know it sucks that they couldn't play but damn man it wasn't safe the ANYONE to be out there. And you want them to go stand in the rain and make a speech? Are you out of your mind? You probably would have been happy if they had gone on stage and something happened. You and that FKShinedown guy are sick, sick people. I can't believe you want another human to put themselves in danger for your entertainment. YOU ARE A SICK PERSON. I truly hope you realize how wrong that is.

HAR573 I may have been a little too hard on you, but you have to look at the fact that the Missouri State Fair is not a typical concert venue. I do agree that there was a breakdown in communication. If you paid attention to what little announcements there was, it was from the Fair people, not from the band or anyone associated with the band. I am pretty sure the Fire Marshall and State Patrol was calling the shots right down to the meet and greet being canceled. From tweets posted by the band they claimed they were standing outside off stage and the fair people made them leave, then the Hwy Patrol cleared the entire place out. The band may have wanted to come out and say something, but then think of the situation the Hwy Patrol is facing... Almost everyone was off the track and taking cover from the rain, then all of a sudden the band comes out to anounce that they werent going to play? Do you realize how crazy and out of control it would have been having thousands of people rush back out then find out they weren't going to play? Complete chaos, that's what. It could have been handled better, but the blame does not rest on the band at all for the course of events that took place that night. They apologized, money was refunded (except for the overpriced fair admission), and said they would come back, what more can you expect? I think there is a bigger picture to things you are failing to understand... It's great you got an autograph from Montgomery Gentry, but it was also nice weather too.
harv573's picture

tech i have no idea they told my friend that but my buddy has no reason to lie maybe he miss understood them but they do have radar dumbass they knew they wasn't going to play but yet didn't come out and at least tell everyone and tell everyone they could get a refund on there ticket! the storm was out of their control and i don't fault them for that it was their disrecpect and not living up to their responsibilitys to their fans! the merchandiser had something to do with the price but not the meet and greet if the band cared so much for their fans they would have had the meet and greet for the 100 people if not for everybody!! i seen a country concert the next night who signed autos for anybody that wanted them for free that people that cares asshole!!!! EVERBODY WHO HASN'T GOT A REFUND U CAN THRU TICKETMASTER BUT U ONLY HAVE 30 DAYS
bluecaboose12's picture

I just want to say to all the people who are bashing them please be quiet. They cant control the weather and neither can you so stop complaining. Yes I know it sucks because I have missed a show before but, you will get over it. Shinedown is awesome and the thing that makes them awesome is they love there fans and I know this because I have seen them every year they have played at Rockfest.

This was my daughters birthday present, which she counted down each day for two months until the concert. We had second row seats, and as great as Chevelle was, she cried when the concert was cancelled. So what does a Mom do?? No more outdoor concerts for sure, we are road tripping to Grand Prairie this weekend!!! Please inform staff to honor the backstage wristbands from the Sedalia Storm!!!!!!! Rockin Road Warriors from Lake of the Ozarks!!!!!

HAR573 I really shouldnt waste my time commenting to you, but you sound like a real douche bag. First of all all if SD was already gone at 8:00PM why was the crew rigging the stage at 8:15PM for their performance after Chevelle, who started at 7:30 and played for 45 minutes?. Seeing how this pic was taken and tweeted by Zach at 9:53pm http://twitpic.com/2ei0q4 (notice Barry to the left) your theory about SD knowing they werent going to play at 8:00 is confirmed bullshit. For your story about your friend not able to buy a ticket at 8:00 I don't know why that would be, but seeing how your first statement is bullshit, I imagine this is bullshit too. Sounds like your beef with the over priced CD is with the merchandiser who would have cordinated the meet and greet after the show. You probably didnt bother asking the merchandiser for the reason, you'd rather spout of lies and bullshit because things didn't go your way. Not a fan anymore? I'd say you more than likely you never were...
harv573's picture

u guys really suck! i guess u have forgot who put u where u are! i was one of your biggest fans (was is the key word here) but that night turned me completely off. i understand u couldn't play because of the weather but u disrespected all your fans by not coming out and telling us u wasn't going to play. i had a friend try to buy a ticket at 8pm and the ticket office wouldn't sell him a ticket cause u guys had already left the grounds cause u already knew u wasn't going to play! also you guys owe 100 fans a autograph session cause we bought a over priced cd to meet the band afterwards which had nothing to do with the rain!! have u forgot WE are the reason u get to do what u do, i guess u just don't give a dam to quote a line from one of your new songs WHAT A SHAME!!!!!

Hey! Just wanted to let you guys know that we were so looking forward to the concert at the fair and were truly bummed when the weather started acting up. I know you guys waited around for a long time hoping the weather would clear and so did we! But mother nature had other ideas!! I really appreciate the fact that you all wanted to play for us as bad as we wanted to hear you!! Just another reason we love you guys and think you are the best! Hopefully you will do a show somewhere close soon I don't know if you will attempt the fair again (hopefully) but even so would hate to have to wait a year! You all are amazing and we look forward to seeing you hopefully soon! Looking forward to getting an email from the nation saying "buy tickets early...for Missouri" Thanks guys you rock!

My seven year old daughter and I drove 3 hours for the show. She was so disappointed. I understand ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Please come back to the Missouri State fair next year. We will all be there. I speak on behalf of every Shinedown fan in the crowd. Have great and safe tour.
AirForceOne's picture

All of us in the 131st and the 509th at Whiteman Air Force Base are looking forward to having you back in the area again as soon as possible. Thank you for attempting to put on the show as long as you did. Safety first! Can't change the weather. Just don't pull a Kings of Leon and start calling shows for birds pooping on stage. Love you guys. Best of luck on the remainder of your tour.

This was my second attempt to see shinedown. My first attempt was at rockfest, it was a birthday present for me and i was so pumped. But then i got very ill and had to leave before they even came on stage. Then on friday we have a freak of a storm. Hopefully you guys come back soon so that 3rd time is a charm! I do think that you could have atleast done the meet and greet. Exspecially for those fans who drove 2 hrs and had to pay gas and food and fee admissions for the fair. I am glad you guys were safe though and hopefully it won't be to long before your back in the kc area! Rock On!!
Tara_10's picture

You guys are THE Best band in my book. Born and raised in the "wait five minutes and the weather will change" state of Missouri, I am not at all surprised that our notorious weather ruined the show. I can only hope that you will come back through our area soon to give your loyal fans, who waited 2 1/2 hours to see if you were going to get to play, a "Second Chance". Love you guys!!
jbryant_2's picture

Yeah it sucks that the show was cancelled, however I just want to thank the band and crew for the generous hospitality they showed me and my friends on Thursday night at the cookout in the hotel parking lot. Hanging out and getting to drink a few beers with one of my favorite bands is something I will never forget. By the way, Barry Kerch is a grillmaster!
KCMOStealthRT's picture

I just felt that the band should have came out on stage to at least tell their fans they weren't going to be able to play. At least tell us what the plan was so everybody wasn't confused on the situation especially with refunds. Either way, I was still waiting for "What A Shame" to start playing on the speakers. - "What a shame, what a shame, to judge a storm that you can't change.
kewlethan's picture

If it was so dangerous then why were thousands of fans kept waiting for hours? If safety was the concern, the paying fans should have been asked to go take cover somewhere. The first 10 rows in front of the stage were asked to move until further notice because of wind.. There was no lighting for at least 2 hours after Chevelle finished their set.. This is really frustrating for those who drove a long way just to see the show. We risked our lives for hours waiting for them to play. We are supposed to be refunded for our tickets, but what about fair admission tickets, drive, gas and hotel room? I can't help but think about how much rain we had on the day of Rockfest this year, yet the show went on. Oh well tho, Chevelle owns Shinedown anyway...

Maybe Ryan had spent toooo much time at the beer tent and wasn't in tune with the real world. Just sayin :)

SEDALIA, MO: I was amazed at all the different age ranges of FANS! I saw folks ranging from age 2 - 100! To me that spoke volumes about the message your music carriers. I drove down from the outskirts of KC and was bummed about the weather also. I still had a great time at the fair and will look forward to the next time you guys are close to my hometown. I am glad you did not play as if something would have happened.... who would spread the message? You are a powerful band and I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Anonymous's picture

Perri, Ryan said there was no lightning. There was, A LOT of lightning. That's what we're all saying.
Anonymous's picture

Why is everyone flipping out on Ryan? It wasn't safe to play!
brandyjohns@hotmail.com's picture

Ryan no lightening? Really? So let me ask you this, even IF it wasn't lightening would YOU have gotten on stage with all the electrical equipment and played? NO? Well hmmm....I wonder why. Let's ponder this for a moment....Maybe because being in WATER with ELECTRICAL equipment is DANGEROUS! Do you not know this? Do you think it is safe to play with electrical equipment in the rain? If you do then YOU go get a microphone, YOU go get a drum kit, YOU go get a bass, and YOU go get a guitar and YOU stand on stage in the rain and play for 2 hours. When YOU do that then YOU can come back here and complain. But next time you want to complain about something make sure you don't make yourself look like a complete moron by saying it wasn't lightening. Because I know someone that was there and I know from her that it WAS indeed lightening.

So bummed the concert got cancelled Friday night. I knew it wasn't your choice to not play. I was soooo bummed because I had DEAD CENTER FRONT ROW tickets. The best tickets of my life and the stupid Missouri wearther ruins it. I won't ever get the chance to see you guys that close again. It wasn't a total loss as I did get to meet you backstage and get autographs. Thanks for signing my Rockfest 2009 pic. It hangs in my son's room. Hope you guys come around again. Chevelle did awesome and my seven year old was pumped when I gave him the guitar pick.
Anonymous's picture

I'm sorry, I have to point out, Ryan said there was no lightning...that's complete bull. There was tons of lightning. And when I saw the way the lights were shaking, I didn't want our boys up there. For ANYONE. It's just a concert. There will be more. Why blame the band? You all saw the boys' tweets, right? Especially Zach's? They would never cancel a concert by THEIR choice. The people in charge of the fair cut them off. Why? Because it wasn't safe. For them or us. I was on the track, 17 rows from the stage, any one could see that the chairs were steel. Uhm, Rain + Lighting + Steel. Do the math. It wasn't safe. So anyone who blames the band needs to get a life. I drove two hours from KC to see them. It would've been my fourth time. But, stuff happens. Nothing to blame the band over. Blaming the band for terrible weather? Please grow up. *rant over*
bcraven05's picture

I can understand why some people are upset or bummed, I was too... but it is not ultimately the band's fault. Could things have been different (band coming on stage, etc.), sure... but we don't know any of the circumstances that took place backstage. For Shinedown to "make us wait for hours" actually shows they wanted to play! Maybe they weren't sitting in the rain as well, but the fact that it didn't get cancelled earlier proved they were trying to stick it out for us, the fans! Yes, it was no fun taking time off work, traveleing from a little west of Kansas City, missing actually seeing Shinedown and having to drive back soaking wet... but I can't blame that on the band... c'mon! Hopefully Shinedown will make it around again soon, b/c I know myself and my wife were amped up for the concert and can't wait to see them live! You guys rock, and hopefully you will make it around these parts again soon!!! Thanks for the refund and free Chevelle concert... no hard feelings!!!
bbigcnote's picture

don't blame you. you all don't control the weather. i got to see chevelle and ticketmaster has promised a refund on my tickets. so all is good. but to be honest i would rather have a rescheduled concert then my money back. you guys rock.
