“We’re really excited to combine forces with Papa Roach on these dates.  Just like us, they bring it every night for their fans,” says Shinedown frontman Brent Smith. “I guarantee you this…its gonna be LOUD!”

Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix adds, “We are stoked to be touring with Shinedown, we have a lot of love and respect for them. It’s been a long time coming, be prepared, both bands are going to annihilate the stage.”

Shinedown will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the tour to the Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD) at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. The hometown center works to educate and empower individuals and families through support, assistance and awareness within the community to optimize the potential of all individuals with autism and related disabilities.

Launching on this tour, Papa Roach has partnered with WHY (World Hunger Year)  to support local and national efforts to end hunger and poverty. The band will be auctioning off special VIP fan experiences via www.paparoach.com including meet and greets, an interview with the band, side-stage tickets, soundcheck access and much more – with all proceeds going to WHY. In addition to raising money, Papa Roach will build awareness from the stage along their tour stops and visit local food banks and homeless shelters to lend support. The statistics are staggering: 36.2 million Americans are hungry and every day almost 16,000 children from around the globe die from hunger-related causes. Shaddix explains, “We’re proud to work with World Hunger Year to help those in need. We’ve been fortunate enough to have a voice and we want to use it by giving back. We encourage everyone to help out their local communities.”

Ingredients:

25 whole Jalapenos, Cored and seeded
2 bricks Cream Cheese
2-4 Tablespoons Favorite Spice, Adjusted to your taste

Directions:

Hey everyone. This Rock and Roll Summer Camp recipe is one of the
easiest you can possibly make. It is best over a nice charcoal grill in
the summer while drinking a cold one. Here is what you do:

Core and seed the jalapenos. In a separate bowl mix the cream cheese with some of your favorite spice. I typically use just a bit of Italian seasoning. Then stuff the peppers almost to the top with the cream cheese. Don’t overfill because it just expands on the grill and goes everywhere.

Now for the grilling. There is a great contraption that I found at a
Bass Pro Shop that is made for grilling jalapenos. It is a little metal
stand with holes in it that keep the jalapenos upright while grilling.
I highly recommend this.

Place the jalapenos on a medium to medium high grill for approximately
10-15 minutes. You want the skin to be slightly blackened and the tops of the peppers where the cheese is nicely browned.

Thats it…… and they taste awesome. Enjoy these at your next Epic

This wonderful and delectable beer is a ruby colored beverage with a strong malty flavor and little bite from the Fuggles and Stryian hops. I truly put this beer up there with my beloved Red Label Chimay. Eric here. Just wanted to give you guys a little bit of insight into the backstage goings on out here on the Stimulate This Tour. First of all I am happy to announce that all of the bands are getting along. We all actually seem to like each other. I would love to be able to give you all some good dirt, but there is none. All of us hang out on a nightly basis. Shinedown throws a BBQ every night, and all bands are welcome. Everybody contributes and it’s a great time! On any given night you can find Aaron from Staind and Brent sitting around talking. Pete and Sam from Chevelle having some drinks, with Sam’s amazing wife taking care of Barry’s tip jar. Barry has been manning the grills of course. I made the ultimate IPod playlist…and by ultimate I mean ULTIMATE! (Holla!) I also get to do the dishes. Whooo Hooo!! Zach is always single handedly keeping Myspace and AIM up and running. And last but not least, the Halestorm guys and girls do all of the eating!

The Shinedown camp has become addicted to frisbee this year as well. We play at least twice a day weather permitting. We are in the constant search for the ultimate frisbee, so if you have any suggestions, let us know! I have also rediscovered my long lost love of skateboarding to my band’s, and tour manager Doug’s, dismay. They have, however, made me start wearing wrist guards. I feel like a punk, but I gotta be able to play bass every night, so I get it.

We’ve got our boy Jake back out here with us again finally! He’s getting all of us back in shape after our ‘every night beer bender’ that we went on in Europe. We work out a couple of times a day. Maybe we can take our shirts off on stage again soon…maybe.

Anyway, that is just some of what is going on behind the barricades this summer on the Stimulate This Tour! We are having a blast, and you guys are making it possible. If you have been to a show already, we hope you had fun! If we haven’t gotten to you yet, hang in there we’re coming!

Just checking in to say hello and give a little update from the road. We’re just wrapping up the current run of dates in America and are very excited to be heading overseas again.

Today’s beer is from the UK known as, my little friend, Newcastle.   Most people, myself included, have a beer that they enjoy as their everyday drink of choice. It could be a cold Bud, Miller, PBR, Coors, or Corona, but you all know that you have your ‘guilty pleasure’ in beer choices. Ours is Newcastle Brown Ale.

Eric and myself find ourselves drinking this beer more often than not, and are perfectly happy with our choice. Here’s the deal…… The beers mentioned before aren’t bad, or most of the US and world drink them on a regular basis without giving it a second thought. However, when it comes to a beer snob like myself I can’t really condone some of the ones listed above. I digress, Newcastle IS good. Period. It may not be one of the finest beers worldwide but it is a very drinkable every day beer. Solid brown color with a light caramel flavor, slightly skunky on the nose, but not on the palate. I truly believe this beer is best out of tap, followed by bottle and as cold as you can get it. The head doesn’t last long, but the beer isn’t that effervescent to begin with. This goes great with greasy pub food or just chillin’ with some snacks on a lazy Sunday. Many a hangover has been earned by this lovely caramel brewskie. I thank you my British friends. Keep up the good work. This beer gets a solid 3.5 out of 5 Solo cups.

1 pound creole sausage or smoked sausage, sliced on bias
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium vidalia onion, diced small
1 medium bell pepper, diced small
2 stalks celery, diced small
1 15 oz. can organic diced tomatoes, with juice
2 15 oz. can red kidney beans, rinsed well
1/2 cup med. dark roux, made beforehand
1/4 teaspoon fresh oregano, minced
1/4 teaspoon fresh thyme, minced
2 medium bay leaf, whole
to taste creole seasoning
to taste salt and pepper
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
to taste hot sauce (Lousianne, Tabasco, or Crystal)

Directions:

Hey ya’ll. Let me preface this recipe by letting you know that this
is NOT traditional. This is a quick and easy recipe that is sure to
make you smile. It tastes great as a main course or for leftovers.
If your from Louisiana or Mississippi please don’t hurt me.

Here’s what you do:

Brown the sausage in a pan and drain excess oil on paper towels.
Start your rice now and it’ll be ready to go by the time you finish
the rest.
In a medium sauce pot heat up your roux without burning to medium/
medium high, and then throw in your holy trinity as it is called in
the south (onion, green pepper, and celery).
Add a little salt and sweat them until nice and tender. (about 5-10
minutes)
Then add garlic and fresh herbs and cook over medium for another
couple of minutes.
Add in your tomatoes with juice, cooked sausage, and drained/rinsed
kidney beans.
At this point if yours is too thick add about a half cup of water.
Season with creole seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce.
Cover and simmer over medium low heat for about 15 minutes until you rice is done or even a little longer till the flavors come together.
Serve in a bowl over rice and enjoy!!!!

Don’t forget a cold one. (I suggest the Abita from my beer blog).

Hard rock mavens Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle and Halestorm will be teaming up this summer for the “Stimulate This!” tour, a four-band bill designed to offer fans maximum value at a minimal price.
Making its way across the U.S. beginning July 1 and extending through early September, the “Stimulate This!” tour will hit more than 40 U.S. markets, including some of the hardest hit by the recession. In a show of solidarity for their fans, the four bands have worked closely with the concert promoters to create a package of exceptional value for ticket buyers. Through their collective efforts, they’ve been able to maintain modest base ticket prices that remain mostly under $40 each – half the cost of comparable multi-band summer tour packages – with some venues offering lawn seats for less than $10. Additionally, each tour stop will include special promotions for ticket holders that will vary from market to market, but could include discounts on concessions at the venue during the show, store discounts at local retailers, and online rebates for band merchandise to name a few.
“Wall Street got its bailout; now it’s time for rock fans to get theirs,” said Staind frontman Aaron Lewis. “This summer, we want to give our fans one night where they can forget about everything else and experience a great rock show.”
“We’ve always said that we, as a band, only answer to one boss…and that’s everyone in the audience,” offers Shinedown’s Brent Smith. “It’s our job…our privilege to offer our fans an escape. Chimay Premiere Red Label:

Or as my good friend Scott Allee calls it “Chimay-may”.  This beer has been made since 1862 by the Cistercian Trappist monks of Chimay Belgium. And let me tell you they know what the “h e double hockey sticks” they are doing. (Thought it may be wrong to write hell while talking about monks.) To be honest with all of you, this beer has been a staple of my drinking pleasure for quite a few years now and is my typical after show drink of choice. Sometimes I may interchange that with other Trappist style ales such as Duvel, Ommegang, and Orvel just to name a few, but this is about the most stupendous, the most magnificent…..Chimay!

Lets talk about color first. When pouring this beer you get a lovely glass of coppery goodness. Also it leaves behind a ton of foam which is a good thing. Put your nose right in this bad boy and get a whiff of fruity smell reminiscent of of apricots, honey, and raisins with an addition of yeast, caramel, and cloves. This is not a beer for the faint of heart. It’ll get you drunk in no time. Consider that a fair warning. It has a 7% ABV which is higher than most, but there are plenty around with more. We will get to those sometime as well. When you finally take a sip of this one you initially get a good spicy bite with a sprite style effervescent tingle. This beer is good at just about any temp and I recommend trying it after you let it sit from the fridge for about 5-10 minutes. This is a sipping beer that can be enjoyed with a good red sauce over some mussels on your back porch during a spring evening. (In fact that is what I am doing right now.) However, typically when I am on the road, I sip a Chimay after a long Shinedown show when I just need a moment to unwind. This beer gets 4.5 out of 5 Solo Cups. Peace and Cold beer ya’ll.

I wanted to write all of you and thank you for your continued support. Last night was an absolutely amazing time in Orlando. All of the shows lately have been a blast, and all stand out for one reason or another in our minds, but Orlando was special because it was all acoustic. First off thank you for selling it out! Secondly, we were excited to see how well an acoustic show would do, and you all proved to us that we need to work on doing an acoustic tour in the future. Aside from all of the chanting for ‘Simple Man’, which you all should know by now that we aren’t going to play, it was one of the coolest Shinedown shows I have had the pleasure of playing. Not only that but I got to pull out my 1950’s gold sparkle Ludwig jazz kit for
the show. I haven’t had that much fun playing drums in a long time.
Those drums were just screaming to be played. I could have sat there all night and played for all of you. Again thank you, and let us know your thoughts on doing an acoustic tour. For those of you that saw it let us know what you thought. Much love must also go out to Number One Contender for being an amazing opener, and Alan Price for playing some mean rhythm guitar for us.

It has truly been an honor to see all of your faces out there in the crowd. I have to say, we are so damn excited to see what the rest of the year is going to be like! ABITA RESTORATION PALE ALE:
A great everyday beer that is not overly alcoholic or heavy.  It is well paired with spicy or tomato based foods.  Citrusy without being  wheat beer or ‘unfiltered’.  It is a smooth beer that allows a little bit of over indulgence without the painful after effects.  Abita knows their stuff and does it well.  This beer is just enough to cut through about any dish without being overly hoppy or painful on the palate.  You see, hops may be the trend right now, but it is not always the most pleasant ingredient in beer.  It can be a great additive, but it is just that.  Unfortunately, a trend here in the States is more hops = better beer.  Really this is not the case.  Let me give you a quick hops lesson…..

Initially hops were included in beer by accident, just like the creation of beer itself.  Hops help balance the sweetness of the malt sugars used in the creation of beer, but more importantly they help keep bacteria out of the brewing process.  Hops are a natural analgesic.  Over time we have learned to accept and even enjoy the taste of hops.  It can be amazing, but my personal tastes lead me to a less hoppy beer.  Remember friends…. the hoppier the beer the bigger the headache.   Analgesic = headache/hangover.   Though some disagree with me, trust me on this.  I have had more experience than needed.  If you plan on drinking IPAs, keep it to one or two.  After that it is your own fault.  Oh, and by the way, a lot of IPA’s have a higher alcohol content which of course is the main reason of a hangover.  DRINK SOME WATER!!!!!

Enough of my tangent.  Grab an Abita, cook up a fine gumbo, sit back and enjoy your day.  It’s good, real good.  Love it and enjoy life.  Until next time….I give Abita Restoration Pale Ale a 4 Solo Cups out of 5.   Long live Abita.  Peace, Love and Cold Beer.

Barry here. Hope this finds you all well. I mean that in the most literal sense of ‘well’. You see, 3/4 of Shinedown has come down with the Plague/Ebola/Bird Flu/Common Cold, and it is brutal. I have
to admit though that Swedish Doctors are amazing. They gave us a 1
liter jug of special cough syrup that had me thinking I was on a Space Ship ride for about 6 hours of the 12 hour ferry ride we were on the other day. It was going from Finland back through Sweden. Thank you Swedish Doctor. I now know what zero gravity feels like and how to use the bathroom while in zero G. All will be well though as soon as we can breath again and stop sounding like a frog when we talk. It is kind of amusing though. I think I have the voice of Barry White now.
I would like to take the time now to thank all of our new European/ UK fans that we have had the pleasure of playing for. You have been amazing so far. All of the shows have been sold out, which is something we thought we would never do on our first headlining run in Europe. AWESOME!!!! Today finds us in Hamburg to another sold out night. Should be fun. I know we are looking forward to it, and no matter how much we say we are sick, we promise to still get up and give 110%. Nothing a pre-show German Beer and shot of Jager can’t cure.
This has been a great trip and we will be back again very soon. A little bird told me sometime around June. At least that’s what I
thought it said before it took a dump on my black coat and flew off.

New York, NY– Atlantic recording group Shinedown will kick off 2009 with an eight-country, European tour starting on January 21st at London’s O2 Academy Islington. The Jacksonville, FL-based band will make stops in Paris, Amsterdam and Stockholm for the Radio Bandit Awards among numerous other cities.

Beginning with the Punk To Crunk Festival in Lafayette, LA, on February 23rd, the group returns for another run of U.S. tour dates (see attached itinerary). More shows will be announced as the band expects to be on the road for the rest of the year in support of The Sound Of Madness. In other news, Shinedown has landed their second consecutive #1 hit at rock radio with “http://shinedown.com/videos”>Second Chance</a>.” The band’s run of hit singles from their first three albums makes them one of the most successful rock bands of the decade. Shinedown launched “Second Chance” with a blistering performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this past fall. The song’s companion music video made its debut on MSN.com at the start of the new year and has been added to FUSE’s Rock & Alternative Countdown shows. “Second Chance” goes to Top 40 radio later this month.

It’s time for another round of Q and A with the boys from Shinedown. They sat down and answered some of your questions on their new album, “Sound of Madness.”  Be sure to keep on submitting your questions for the band!

Ingredients:

2 cups Leftover Stuffing
1 cup Leftover Turkey, Rough Chopped in large pieces
1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar, Grated
(null) to taste Cajun Seasoning
1 pat Butter

Directions:

I don’t know about you, but after spending all day in the kitchen during the holidays, the last thing I want to do the day after is spend it creating a great meal. You’ve got family running around, your Egg Nog hangover is kicking in, and the dog got in the trash can over night. You can’t give him enough Pepto for that one. Luckily, this recipe is easy, tastes great, is super quick, and you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen from the day before.
Here is what you do. Take the stuffing out of the fridge and put it in a mixing bowl. Roughly chop up some leftover turkey (about a cup) and add it to the bowl with the stuffing. Sprinkle some cajun
seasoning in the bowl to taste and mix it all together gently. You don’t want to mix it too much cause you will break down the stuffing even more. Be careful, you can always add more seasoning, but you don’t want to over salt the dish. I make my own cajun seasoning, but any of the prepared ones will work just fine. Heat a pan over medium heat, melt a pat of butter in the pan, and then add the stuffing mixture. Heat it all through and stir occasionally. If you don’t it will stick. I like to get some nicely browned pieces of stuffing in there, but it is up to you. Once it is hot, transfer to a bowl, sprinkle with the grated cheese, and go hang out on the couch with a cold beer, you earned it. Enjoy!

P.S. If you not as worn out from the day before as I am you can always take this recipe to the next level by chopping up some bell peppers, a jalapeno, and some onion. Saute them first and then add
the stuffing mixture. It makes for one hell of a breakfast. Have fun with it and make it your own. Beer is optional…..

SHINEDOWN LANDS 9^TH STRAIGHT TOP 5 HIT

 “Second Chance” Now #4 At Rock Radio

Heading To Top 40 In January

New York, NY –Atlantic Records recording group Shinedown have landed their ninth consecutive Top 5 hit at rock radio with “Second Chance” now at #4. The band’s run of hit singles from their first three albums makes them one of the most successful rock bands of the decade.  Shinedown launched “Second Chance” with a blistering performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on September 5^th.   The song will be serviced to Top 40 radio at the beginning of 2009.

For Shinedown lead singer Brent Smith, “Second Chance” is the most autobiographical track on the album.  Smith wrote the lyrics about leaving his native Knoxville, Tenn., to pursue a career in rock ‘n’ roll.

“This song for me is the most personal song on the record because it’s about how I grew up and my childhood,” commented Brent.  “It’s about throwing caution to the wind and going after what you truly want in life.”

The Jacksonville, Florida-based rock outfit will film a video for “Second Chance” next month in Florida.  The new clip will debut in early 2009.  The band is currently scheduled to be out on tour for the rest of the year in the U.S. in support of The Sound Of Madness. All current dates are listed below and more are being added regularly.

Shinedown’s latest album, The Sound Of Madness, was produced by multiple Grammy Award-winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day, My Chemical Romance).  Upon its release it became the band’s biggest debut of their career landing at # 8 it’s first week on the charts.  The album has remained on the Billboard Top 200 album chart for 16 consecutive weeks. Shinedown’s first single from The Sound of Madness “Devour” reached #1 on both the Billboard Active and Mediabase Rock charts.  With “Second Chance” Shinedown are continuing their streak of success.

Recipe By: Barry Kerch
Serving Size: 6

Ingredients:

1 whole Smoked Turkey leg
3 quarts chicken stock
1-2 tablespoon cajun seasoning
1 tablespoon hot sauce (Lousianne, Tabasco, or Crystal)
2  bags or bunches collard greens

Directions:

Here is one of my favorite side dishes.  Southern to the bone and good for ya!  Fall and winter is one of the best times for this because the collards are in season, but you can get them all year long.

In a large pot, bring 3 quarts of broth to a boil and add smoked turkey legs, cajun seasoning, and hot sauce. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 1 hour.  That allows the turkey leg to break down and get all happy in the pot.

Wash the collard greens to remove any debris and such.  Then remove the stems that run down the center by holding the leaf and then pull the stem out with your other hand.  Stack about 6 -8 leaves one on top of the other, roll up, and rough chop all the leaves to about 1-2 inch strips.  (An easier way is in my local supermarket you can get bagged washed and prepared collards.  All the busy work is done for you and you can just dump them into the pot.)  Place the greens into the pot and cook for about 45 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally.  When done, give them a taste and adjust your seasonings.

I like to serve these with hot vinegar sauce.  You know the kind with the yellow peppers in the bottle.  That takes the greens to the next level.  Oh and don’t waste the liquid in the pot.  Make sure you have some in the bowl with your greens.  It is called pot liquor and is healthy and flavorful.  I drink it by the cup full.

Oysters on the Grill
Serving Size: 4-8

Ingredients:
1 Bushel Oysters, Fresh in shell.
1/4 cup Prepared Horseradish , or to taste
1/4 cup Ketchup, or to taste
1 Bottle Tabasco, c’mon you have to.
1 Box Saltine Crackers

Directions:
Basically get yourself a 1/2 bushel to a full bushel of oysters depending on how many people you want to feed. Rinse the oysters to remove any mud still stuck on them and put them in a cooler with ice. One of the most important things is if it is open before cooking, throw it out. You don’t want anyone getting sick and an open oyster is a dead oyster. If you are unsure just toss it, there are plenty more in the bushel.

Now get your grill going at about a medium heat level, right when the briquets get a good cover of ash on them. Put about ten or twelve oysters directly on the grate and cover them with a wet towel or the burlap sack they came in. Just keep the towel or sack wet and that will help steam the oysters. Put the lid on the grill and cook for about 5-8 minutes. They are done when the shell pops open, but some like them cooked a little longer so they are less runny. It is up to you.

From here pull them off the grill, shuck out the oyster, and eat with your favorite topping. I enjoy it on a Saltine cracker with a dash of Tabasco on it. Others like a little cocktail sauce. Mix equal parts
ketchup and horseradish together to taste for a simple cocktail sauce.

This time we’re sharing an unbelievable recipe from our producer and friend Rob Cavallo. Observe:

Rob’s Steak and Sauce

Recipe By: Rock and Roll Recipes
Serving Size: 4

Ingredients:
4 small 4 oz Beef Filets Thick, at room temperature
1/2 cup onion, diced
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups port wine, at room temperature
2 cups heavy cream
3 tablespoons dijon mustard
5 tablespoons porterhouse spice, to rub on meat
salt to taste
pepper to taste

Directions:
This recipe is really done to taste and never truly measured. The above
amounts are only guidelines.

Take steaks to room temperature and liberally rub with porterhouse spice
mixture.
Heat pan on stovetop to high and sear steaks on both sides in a little
olive oil.
Don’t cook all of the way through.
Remove from pan and set aside.
Throw Onions and Garlic into pan with drippings and lightly brown.
Deglaze with Port wine and reduce by half.
Add heavy cream and reduce by half again.
(For a lighter version replace cream with a mixture of low fat Ricotta
Cheese whipped in blender and mixed with low fat yogurt to taste. Not as
good but lower in fat.) Whisk in mustard to taste (I personally like a
lot) Return steaks to pan and cook for approx. 5-8 minutes until medium/
med. rare 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Serve with sauteed spinach and crispy restaurant fries to soak up the
kick ass sauce…..

For much of Jared Hara’s early life, he was only blindsided by things like a pop quiz or a tricky pass on the hockey rink. Then, when he was 11, Jared and his family learned he had a rare genetic disease that would soon leave him blind forever.

Directed by first-time filmmaker Talia Osteen, the HBO Family documentary BLINDSIDED tells the story of a devoted family thrown into turmoil by a child’s eye disease, revealing how Jared’s condition threatened to tear them apart, and how his indomitable spirit ultimately brought them closer together. The exclusive presentation debuts FRIDAY, OCT. 10 (7:15-8:15 p.m. ET/PT), on HBO, and TUESDAY, OCT. 14 (9:00-10:00 p.m.), on HBO Family.  Other HBO Family playdates: Oct. 14 (5:00 a.m.), 20 (3:00 a.m.), 26 (1:45 p.m., 12:35 a.m.), 29 (3:30 p.m.) and 31 (5:00 p.m.)

Jared did not let his condition stop him from living his dreams.  One of them came true when he met Shinedown, one of his favorite bands.  Jared was able to jam with them, and as a surprise, he was brought onstage to play with them.  He was blown away by the experience.

Other than that it is the usual wake up load in, do a show, load out, go to bed, wake up somewhere else and do it all over again. And on the gloriouse days off we do what anyone else would do, hit the mall and most definitly best buy, catch a movie, and if there is a Fridays or outback near the hotel you know where to find us for a few frosty beers before bed. Well since we are all at home now for a few more short days I will sign off. I have alot of my favorite shows to watch on the DVR to clear up space for the next leg of the tour, and can you say WEST COAST! We cannot wait to see everyone, make sure to stop by say hi, and let us say thank you for giving us all the best jobs in the world, because if it weren’t for all of you we would not be able to do what we love to do. From sunny Florida, hopefully these hurricains will not hit us, have a good one and see ya soon!

Salsa El Diablo
Serving Size: 10

Ingredients:
10-12 Roma Tomatoes, Diced small
1 Med. Vidalia or Sweet onion, Diced small
1 Med. Green Pepper, Diced Small
1 Bunch Cilantro, Diced
1 Can Organic tomatoes Whole, Diced
2 Jalapenos, Diced Fine
1 Habenero Pepper, Diced Fine
1 tbsp Ancho Chili Powder
1 tbsp Chipotle Chili Powder
2 tbsp Cumin
1-2 tbsp Honey
2 tbsp Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tbsp Lime Juice
Salt
Pepper

Directions:
When writing this recipe I realized how much I don’t measure. Salsa is a very basic thing to make, but is really all about taste. If you like it hot, add more peppers. If you can’t handle the heat add only one jalapeno. Adjust all the ingredients to your liking they are just guidelines. Also, yes I realize this isn’t a traditional recipe, but what kind of fun would that be.
There are two ways to do this recipe. If your in a hurry or like very thin salsa, chop everything up in a Cuisinart and enjoy. I personally enjoy the time in the kitchen slowly chopping and dicing everything by hand with my favorite knife. When available use the best ingredients you can. Organic veggies and good spices. Bob Marlett (producer of Leave a Whisper) taught me one great lesson…
“Good in, Good out”. Tomatoes can vary greatly in ripeness and flavor, so you may have to substitute with more canned and less fresh. So thats about it. Chop/Dice everything up to the consistency you like it, mix it all together in a bowl, add your spices and mix again. Serve with nice chips and a cold cerveza. Keeps a few days in fridge but I promise it won’t last that long.

Variations:
If you want to take it even further you can add other things to make it interesting. Add fresh mango or pineapple and serve over a nice grilled fish. Add corn and black beans for a little extra texture. ENJOY!

It’s been a crazy couple weeks in the Shinedown camp. First off, we want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who bought our new album The Sound of Madness. It debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 chart. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of all our fans, so thank you!

We hope you are enjoying our awesome new website. We’ve been posting lots of photos, behind the scenes video clips and blog updates, but we really want you to get involved too. So head over to the photos gallery and submit any photos and videos you’ve taken of us at shows and then keep a look out to see if they appear on the website.

We’ve just added some new merch to our official store including an extremely limited edition of The Sound Of Madness which is signed by the whole band. But there’s less than a hundred on sale. So act quick! We also added three brand new Shinedown shirts to our merch store which basically means three more excuses not to do your laundry just yet. Check them out.

So, we were sitting around last night going over candidates for today’s ’sweet burn’, and I have to say, there are a lot of hateful people out there. It’s amazing how many people waste their time and energy letting the world know how much they dislike us. It’s rather flattering actually! But it takes a special kind of dislike mixed with humor to truly get a ’sweet burn’. Anyway, as we were trying to decide, we remembered back to our webcast/chat a couple of weeks ago, and to one particular comment that someone made. We don’t recall who the sender was, but the quote was something like, “The bass player looks like a shih tzu!”, or “The bass player looks like he has a shih tzu on his head!” We thought this was f’ing hilarious, and needed to receive the respect it deserved. Great burn whoever you are!!!!!

     Just a quick post to thank all of you for your support at our recent shows in Pharr and San Antonio.  Also, sorry for any confusion about the date in San Antonio.  Turns out that our website said we were playing the Scout Bar in Houston up until the day before the San Antonio show.  It should have said Scout Bar San Antonio.  Again, sorry if you tried to go to Houston instead of San Antonio.  We are having a blast out here and are looking forward to all of the great shows we have lined up.   See ya tomorrow in El Paso.  Peace, Love and Cold Beer, Barry

Hoogie is the Guitar Tech for all three of our amazing guitarists, Eric Bass (Bass), Zak Myers (Rythm), and Nick Perri (Lead).  I am going to let him jump on and quickly introduce himself and give you guys a little bit of his background……………….

High Guys, its Hoogie, I have been a Guitar Tech for a little over 10 years now.  I was born in raised in the great Tillbury Ontario, Canada, and still reside there to this day.  I have been fortunate to have been afforded the experience of touring with bands such as Staind, Breaking Benjamins, Theory of a Deadman, Trapt, Sam Roberts Band and several more.  After touring with Shinedown for a couple weeks last year, I was honored to be asked to return as their guitar tech on this World Tour, and I look forward to doing whatever I can to make each show as smooth for the guys as possible.  Sharing the stage with them on a nightly basis, knowing that I am responsible for tuning and preparing the guitars they use to make that sound, is quite the experience.  Stick around guys, stay in contact on here and help be a part of that ride, none of us will soon forget.  

Alright guys its me Jake, Security Director and Merchandise Mgr, for Shinedown.  I wanted to thank you guys for taking the time to read two crazy ol cats random thoughts; but we figured what better way for you to get more aquainted with the crew and what goes on behind the curtains at those absolutely mind blowing Shinedown Concerts we all love so well.  

Its been quite the interesting, and already amazing ride over the last couple months.  Starting out in Florida, mid April, the crew and band got together for what proved to be a bonding and ultimately unfiying experience.  Forming what will hopefully prove to be a team ready to do whatever possible to take these guys to a level, you haven’t seen in decades.

Taking off on a short, “pre-tour” run, performing in 6 festivals and headlining 3 clubs over 11 days, we got the amazing opportunity of performing with some of the most influancing bands on the road.  We would all like to thank the crews and band members of Theory of a Deadman, Serj Tankien, Filter, Kid Rock, 3 Doors Down, Saving Abel, Ashes Divide, Staind, Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, Finger 11, and how could we ever forget sharing the stage with Stone Temple Pilots on their first show back together in over 7 years, at Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio.  

Following that short “pre-tour” run, the crew was able to take a little over a week off to handle their personl affairs while the band flew to California to shoot the amazing new video for DEVOUR.  Meeting back up in Nashville, we immediately pulled out on what has proven to be the beggining of an amazing tour.  Starting with several festivals over the first couple weeks, we were once again able to share the stage Stone Temple Pilots, in what has been debated as being between 50 to 65 thousand people at Pointfest in Kansas City, Mo. Only this time Shinedown performed directly before STP, in what I have to admit, was a performance that stole the show for the rest of the evening.  The energy that was in the air, coming from the band, and almost radiating off the crowd, set the standard for what will be the greatest Rock Show in the World.  

Hitting the road from Kansas City, there has been several memorable experiences none of us will ever forget.  Our hats go off to the people of Burlington, Iowa who have been flooding by the rains over the last couple weeks.  I remember getting off the bus that morning in Burlington commenting on how nice the atmosphere was there.  Sitting right on the river, the Steamboat Festival deffinitely gave off that old town fairground feeling, you dont see that often anymore.  During the Tour Manager and I’s security briefing we learned the river was raising at an alarming rate, that day was a tuesday, and we were told that the water would be up over the parking lot area by most likely saturday or sunday.  Shinedown was the last band to play at Steamboat Festival Days 2008, the next day the festival was flooded.  We have made it a point to stay up on what is going on in Burlington, and wish the people of that town and the sorrounding areas a fast and safe recovery.  

Only a few days after Burlington, Shinedown shared the stage with Rev Theory and 12 Stones, at the Tabernacle in Atlanta in what was their first main show since their reopening after recovering from the recent tornadoes.  In what proved to be a performance that almost, literally tore the house down, Shinedown rocked the stage to a packed house over 2 thousand people.  When Brent started singing “Save Me”, I think every person in the barricade stopped what they were doing and looked around in silence as everyone stood still.  It was literally like the crowd stopped moving in what everyone could feel was the quiet-before-the-storm.  We were right, suddenly…….”LEFT, RIGHT, FRONT TO BACK, EVERYONE JUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!”  And ooh yes they jumped, they jumped so high, and came down so hard, we jumped.  I am 6′6″, 255lbs, and I came over a foot off the ground, and it was on.  For those of you that were not there, I dont honestly know how to explain it any other way then absolute MADNESS.  

Guys you have to check out the show.  We are starting what will hopefully be over a 2 year World Tour, and if you want it, and you demand it, in a city near you.
